Behira governorate has a special strategic important location, as it is located in the west of delta , surrounded by Rashid branch from the East , Alexandria and Matrouh from the west , it is also surrounded by the Mediterranean sea from the north and Giza governorate from the south . Behira is penetrated by two main roads in Egypt, Cairo – Alex desert road and the agricultural one. The governorate is divided into 14 district , 14 city, 80 local unit followed by 481 village with total 5736 population community . The area of Beheira is 9826 km2 , where the estimated population number is 4.34 million . The governorate is considered the top in Agricultural feild as it contains agricultural land estimated by 795.2 thousand Fedan representing about 11.4 % of total agricultural space in Egypt. The most important agricultural commodities of Beheira is (Cotton, rice, wheat, corn and potatoes) . It's also the top in agricultural production in fruits, vegetables and exporting potatoes, tomatoes, artichokes, watermelon, bean and pepper. The governorate participates in industrial activities in the field of knitting and textiles of carpets , paring cotton , and chemicals industry . It contains five industrial zones at Wady Natroon , Rashid , Housh Eissa and two zones at Nubaria . The governorate has various investment opportunities , as land reclamation, as it is full of land able for reclamation , also it has projects in agricultural industry , and tourism investment as it is a place with great history and moderate climate . Important cities and centers: Capital: Damanhour , it is a very important center for transportation and it is famous by best carpets industry . Kafr Eldawar : One of the famous cities in Fabric industry . Rashid: it has a special position in history , as there was discovered Rashid stone which learned the whole world how to use hieroglyphic symbols , its well known that this stone is put in British museum in England . National day: The governorate celebrates its national annual ceremony in 19 September, as this was a historical day in Egypt when they returned the British captives to England versus British evacuation from Egypt.
